Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) refers to genetic profiling of embryos prior to implantation. Two very popular techniques are used in pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. One is FISH, which is the most commonly applied method to determine the chromosomal constitution of an embryo and make sure that are no quantitative or structural anomalies. The other technique is the 24-Sure/ Microarray technique, which is a chromosomal screening of all embryos for abnormalities. Also known as Array-CGH, this technique is currently the most reliable way to ensure that the healthiest embryos are chosen for implantation. In our clinic, both methods are routinely applied.
